Pinche Xoloescuincle (2020)
Black & Red Earthenware
Courtesy the artist
Pinche Xoloesciencle is inspired by Colima dogs; artifacts housed in the pre-Columbian collection of the Barrick museum. This work was constructed with respect to traditional elements of Mexican folk art production with the incorporation of both red and black clay bodies. These clay bodies are incompatible and will result in the degradation of the piece over time. This self-sabotage is a response to the history of looted objects in museums across the world and portrays the discord between history and the present.
