We believe everyone deserves access to art that challenges our understanding of the present and inspires us to create a future that makes space for us all.
MessageBorn in Texas, David Ryan received his BFA from the University of Texas, Austin in 1996. After graduation he moved to Las Vegas where he received an MFA from UNLV in 2003. Working for years in fiberboard, he switched to lightweight Corafoam when the pieces became too heavy for him to lift without assistance. A 2006 article by David Pagel in VURB describes his methodology: “Each layer has been laser-cut by an industrial tool programmed to follow the lines he has drawn by hand and then altered on the computer, resulting in idiosyncratic shapes best described as blobs ... He meticulously sands the edges of each layer, leaving no trace of the laser’s sharpness.” Ryan's work has been exhibited at the Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, California, Galerie Richard, Paris, France, the Las Vegas Art Museum, Las Vegas, Nevada, and other institutions.
