Artist Statement:
"Art is my salvation—a space for healing, self-exploration, and storytelling. As a queer Chicana
woman and tattoo artist, my practice bridges the worlds of fine art and tattooing, allowing both
to inform and inspire one another. Through oil painting, charcoal, ceramics, and ink, I explore
identity, culture, and spirituality, drawing from personal memories, religious trauma, and the
natural world.
Tattooing influences my fine art through bold imagery and intentional mark-making, while my
studio practice deepens my connection to symbolism and storytelling in tattooing. This
exchange fuels my creative process, blending tradition with contemporary narratives. My work
is both a personal diary and an invitation for others to reflect, connect, and find solace in
shared experiences."
Artist Bio:
Sabrina Martinez is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in personal experience, identity, and the subconscious. Through themes of nostalgia, gender, sexuality, religion, and tattoo culture, she creates a space for both healing and connection.
Born in El Paso, Texas, with deep familial ties to rural New Mexico, Sabrina’s identity as a first-generation Mexican-American profoundly shapes her artistic perspective. As the eldest daughter, she exists between two worlds, bridging cultures, traditions, and personal histories.
