Gifts of Art presents Orchidelirium: Oil Paintings by Christine Knize

Christine Knize, alumna of Tyler School of Art, BFA, and Rhode Island School of Design, MFA, born in NYC, inherited her artistic talent from two generations of women artists. She has forever been captivated by orchids—the jewel-like flowers with vibrant colors, intricate details, and striking patterns.

Christine approaches these flowers as portraits, often working on large-scale surfaces to honor their beauty and complexity. Her technique draws inspiration from the European masters, using oil paint, brushes and multiple layers of translucent glazes, without relying on other mediums or tools. For Christine, the joy of painting lies not only in the act of creation but in the emotional connections her work fosters.
