Gifts of Art presents In Search of Treasure: Hand-Cut Collage by Brooke Sauer
- December 29, 2023 - December 31, 2024
Brooke Sauer’s one of a kind, hand cut collages were inspired by rock hunting with her parents as a child. She used to imagine shrinking down very small and exploring each rock like a unique landscape. Brooke grew up enjoying time in nature with her family in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, and inculcated a love for the natural sciences at a very young age. Moving to Texas, Georgia, Arizona, and California where she currently resides, broadened her appreciation for the endless variety of beauty that nature provides. She is currently working on a large collection of cyanotype paintings using pressed plants that she collects on her hikes. As an avid hiker and backpacker Brooke spends much of her time learning about the natural world first-hand and reflecting on our symbiotic connection to it.
The specimens in this exhibition are graciously on loan from the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History. The museum strives to transform hearts and minds by promoting understanding of the natural world, our place in it, and our impact on it. Bringing campus and community together in participatory and inclusive learning experiences to explore the processes of science and to address urgent global and local challenges.
