Ethnographic Contrafacta - Edition of Ten
five screen printed images and letterpress printed text in handcrafted clamshell box
Ethnographic Contrafacta is a collection of poetic prose and graphic scores that intentionally substitutes direct observation and participation (the stuff of ethnographic fieldwork) with performative text and score. Like the musical term from which the collection partially derives its name—contrafactum (n.) an expression of musical borrowing—these works are meant to be the source material for self-conscious acts of further interpretation, whether realized by an individual, a musicking ensemble, a writing collective, or a group of concerned citizens. Read, look, absorb, and listen for the echo that brings one's attention into focus.
