When I step into the landscape as a painter, I see before me the chaos of nature. If I were to include everything in my painting, it would be overwhelming. My approach is to simplify what I see, transform chaos into order if you will, and create a peaceful and calming piece of art.
"Silo Spire" was painted in response to the poem "Barn." I connected to this entire poem, especially this excerpt,"Alee, strong, double masted silo spires hold it at ground and anchor..." I wanted to paint a barn and silo that was strong but approachable, much like the farm people I know and love.
"The Test of Time" was influenced by the poem "Farm Islands." These phrases especially resonated, "farm islands,"cottonwood-lined reefs," and "safe harbors persevere." The farm is an anchor for generations.
