Mindful

"Creating balance between community and individuality is our ongoing challenge. Through abstract figurative sculpture I use gesture to amplify primal qualities, emotions and experiences. The goal: to find balance between the “me” and “we”.
My characters are multicolored, genderless, politically and religiously neutral archetypal personalities. These simple, dynamic forms are nuanced storytellers.
I produce pages of sketches to discover each character’s essence. As each unique voice emerges, I move to 3D. Then, as a director guides an actor, I reshape the armature to best express my character’s role.
In theater, each scene presents an unanswered question. Finding the answer engages viewers, advances the plot, and creates suspense. I use negative space as my question. I draw viewers around the form to find answers. This builds a relationship between sculpture and viewer. It reveals the archetype to the observer."
