Tribambuka
London, Greater London
London based multidisciplinary artist, illustrator and animation director engaging with notions of shifting identity, home, belonging and gender.
Message"Fountains of Rheia" by Tribambuka is a playful yet profound mixed media exploration of urban landscapes, where the city's dynamic rhythm is captured through abstract forms and a vivid interplay of colours. Utilising monotype, letterpress, and incorporating Soviet-era articles, the artist crafts an urban tableau that is both whimsical and deeply reflective. Light vermilion, almost pink, dominates the palette, supported by accents of black, red, and white, drawing the viewer into a spirited yet intricate dance of forms that suggest the presence of trees amidst the city's architecture.
In this work, the cityscape theme is enriched with the symbolic use of Jungian archetypes as a tool rather than the focal point, allowing for a deeper exploration of the interaction between natural elements and urban environments. The choice of the title "Fountains of Rheia" and the playful hints at trees thriving in an urban setting evoke a sense of renewal and growth, embodying the resilience and transformative power found within city life.
The incorporation of Russian avant-garde and Suprematism influences, with their emphasis on essential geometric forms, complements the light-hearted exploration of urban vitality. This approach frames the artwork as a celebration of the city's capacity to foster unexpected pockets of nature and beauty, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationship between the built environment and the natural world.
Through "Fountains of Rheia," Tribambuka not only pays homage to her heritage and avant-garde inspirations but also presents a refreshing and jubilant meditation on urban landscapes. This piece serves as a reminder of the potential for harmony between the architectural and the organic, offering a vibrant visual reflection on the ways cities can nurture spaces of natural wonder and renewal.
