"What The Ground Remembers" is a 20" x 16" photography by Todd Burger. The photograph I took in Washington, DC. My thought at the time was that even though the trees and nature were removed and cleared from the current park, the ground still remembers what thrived upon it for hundreds of years prior to the city's development.
My work explores the quiet intersections between the built environment and the natural world it replaces. In What the Ground Remembers, a fleeting reflection reveals a hidden narrative—one where the past quietly coexists beneath the present. I’m drawn to moments that transform ordinary scenes into contemplative spaces, inviting viewers to slow down and reconsider what lies beneath. Through observation and abstraction, I aim to uncover the subtle persistence of memory within everyday landscapes.
