  • Artist: Emily Stern Düwel (American, b. 1961)

From her website:

I received an MFA in Design and Technology, with a focus in experimental video and interactive media, from Parsons School of Design in NYC. Before that I earned a BA in liberal arts, with a major in Studio Art and minor in English Literature, at Hamilton College, as well as studied painting and drawing full time at the New York Studio School and theatre-set design at the Parsons extension school.

My work has been exhibited in the New York and Tucson area. Solo shows have taken place at 1 Art on Broadway (Tucson), RLV Gallery (Oracle, Ariz.), Western Arizona College (Yuma), and Cochise College (Sierra Vista). Group exhibits include the recent Rancho Linda Vista Exhibit at Tohono Chul Park, annual invitationals at the Davis Dominguez Gallery in Tucson, a 2015 juried alumani exhibition at the N.Y. Studio School in NYC; and benefit exhibits for Visual AIDS and The Drawing Studio.

Work has also been featured in How Brown Am I at Raices Taller, an on-site installation at ABC No Rio, in numerous DUMBO Open Studios, and in the New School symposium exhibition Excavating the Archive. A painting now belongs as well in the fine art collection of the Tucson Medical Center.

In addition to my artwork, I teach basic design and drawing at Pima Community College and recently concluded my term as president of the Rancho Linda Vista Arts Community. Additional project work in education, museums, and communications largely focuses on arts and culture, social history, and the environment.
