In the 1970s, Audrey Flack did a series of vanitas images using photo realism. The components of each image have personal meaning to the artist. These vanitas images were also worked up as paintings - the oil painting of Leonardo's Lady is owned by the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Here is Tucson, her most famous vanitas - featuring Marilyn Monroe - is on permanent view at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
