From 1997 - 2007, Texas-based artist James W Johnson did a series of paintings depicting children in landscapes titled "Human Nature." This painting is #24, from 1999. In these works, the children's faces dominate the landscape - yet their expressions suggest a fleeting moment more akin to something captured in a photograph than a portrait.
