A former resident of Taos, New Mexico and California, Miller graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and got her MFA at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Her time attending a European Honors Program and studying eastern philosophy in India and the far east informs her work, as does a love of weaving and textiles. Here, layers of hand cut paper create depths of texture and color, and reflect patterns found in the natural world.

This work is based on an original painting by her father, circa 1962, which in turn was based on a photograph he took of Jaya and her brother.
