My name is Kelly Cupell. I am an artist. My paper constructions are tatters and pieces. Tatters and pieces of me, either glued, stapled or sewn together, in a secret code. A secret code to protect myself. I keep paper bits that meant something in a moment or that comforted me at some time. I weave these bits into large paper quilts of courage and into dresses and bodices that act as my secret protection; my paper armor. I protect myself with the least obvious weapons; the lightest weapon, paper, and the super power of creativity. My paintings and oil pastels are the many iterations of myself, being comforted or protected by animals; critters of my own creation, and my beloved dogs. In January of 2024, Tucson Medical Center installed ten of my paper constructions as part of their art therapy program.
