Inspired by the The Mermaid Parade that takes place annually in Coney Island, NY. A celebration of sea mythology and seaside rituals, promoting self-expression.
The original images were shot in 1996 -2001 on film. They were then processed as polaroid transfers in different variations to achive a painterly effect. In 2011 the project was revisited and the transfers were digitized, reworked, and enlarged at a much biger scale. Sides are painted. Mounted on masonite, ready to hang from cleats for a floating effect. Signed on verso.
