Revised Bio

BIO: Tina Rawson, a Swedish American with a background in Art and BA in Education, resides in Newburyport MA where she teaches art and paints in acrylics, watercolors and oils. She has shown her work at juried art shows at art associations throughout the North Shore of Boston, most recently showing "First Bloom/Second Bloom" at the Coffee Factory Newburyport, and a solo show at the Wenham Museum.

Tina loves to be outside and she is often inspired by the color, textures and movement in nature. Starting a painting en plein air and finishing it in a studio is her preferred method of painting. She uses her memories to create the right feeling and mood which she hopes to convey to the viewer for their enjoyment. Tina loved making a series of paintings of friends, one from each sign of the zodiac, in a local beautiful place which she called "Constellation of Friends" which was completed in December 2020 during Covid.

As a child she was greatly inspired by her mother's art, in particular her bold use of color; her grandfather's impressionist paintings; and by Sweden's natural beauty and fine design. Tina feels that this inspiration often is reflected, not only in choice of motif, but also the colors and textures that she employs and the emotion that comes through in her art. She is a member of The Art Queens, Oppna Sinnen i Southern Sweden, and is an active member of the VASA Order of America. Tina is a member of and volunteers at the Newburyport Art Association.

WHY I CREATE:

I create to bring beauty into my life and to demonstrate my feelings about nature, people and places that I love. I like to work quickly by first sketching and understanding my subject matter; and then going nuts with color, movement and experimentation. I love how painting can bring my feelings to light, and how my art connects me to others. Color, movement and emotion are things that I like to capture in my art, whether it be a painting in oil on canvas or wood, a multi-media piece, or watercolors. I am influenced by my Swedish heritage and my home in New England.
