To get the feeling of the piece I absorbed the sights and sounds of the Flume Gorge in Lincoln, New Hampshire first by walking the trails and communing with nature. Then I made a collage which pulled together my impressions, and sketched from my photos at home. Finally I pulled these ideas together to express what it felt like to be at the Flume Gorge, which was full of light and magic, in this painting. This work is inspired by modern painters that I appreciate who use bright acrylic paint and movement in their work, such as landscape artist Randy Hayashi.
