Collective Liberation is an older painting reworked in response to the genocides in the world right now, my usual emotive colour and overlapping personal symbols and simplified figures come together to emphasize themes of Collective Liberation. Jumbled up together in urban and rural landscapes, shapes are pieced together quilt-like, connecting stories, nature and groups of people while gestural lines and brushstrokes emphasize the speed of disjointed information we receive daily.
Before it was reworked it was How Things Play Out, 2020-2022, 42 x 84”, overlaps natural forms from the local environment with emotive colours and shapes and personal symbols emergent from the past couple of years. There is an interplay of painted text (ideas for painting titles and key words jotted down) , surrounded by images with changing perspectives, dynamic figures, abstract flags and isolated events.
