“Gerdie the Giant Squid” was inspired by a visit to the Queensland Museum where they have a preserved specimen in its tank of ethanol. Just like my other paintings, this artwork uses a lot of contrasting colour schemes. Pearly blues and aqua with splashes of green fill the background, and Gerdie is make up of a spectrum of reds, oranges through to moss green and warm white. The movement of the tentacles is highlighted with arcs of white paint. Gerdie would look amazing as a feature piece in a buildings entrance or stand out as a colourful artwork for that special room in your home.
