Artwork statement... While a student at ICC, I had a studio mate, named Eric, who lamented that my artwork was too sexualized (whereas, sometimes sensual, my artwork is never sexual). Embracing his comments, I created a painting with elements of 'the birds & the bees', and the three forms of human love (Man/Woman, Woman/Woman, and Man/Man), along with lightning bolts, alluding to Zeus' splitting of primordial humans, and base representations of swimsuit clad human pelves. With skin and torsos and symbolic representations of human social reproductive activity, peurile sex appeared nowhere in the artwork.
I reasearched dilegently for a title that could have more than one meaning (which I do with many painting titles). In the end, the title became 'FYE', referencing having seen those initials used in playlists representing Adam Lambert’s song “For Your Entertainment” (whose lyrics were spot on in relation to Eric's comments) . Having created an editorial artwork and titling in to my satisfaction, I ask you... does the 'FYE' title mean 'For Your Entertainment' or ‘Fuck You Eric?!
