Ericsson's phone history began with the first "mobile" phone in 1956, a heavy, suitcase-sized device, followed by its first truly handheld phone, the HotLine Pocket, in 1987. The company also released early landline innovations like the 1931 Bakelite telephone and the all-in-one Ericofon in 1953. While Ericsson was a major player in mobile networks, it later sold its mobile phone division, which became Sony Ericsson and continued to innovate with models like the W-series and Cyber-shot phones before the joint venture ended.
