Rookwood Pottery was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1880 by Maria Longworth Nichols, becoming a leading American art pottery company known for its innovative glazes and artistic decorators. It gained international recognition and was one of the first female-founded and managed manufacturing companies in the United States. The company expanded into architectural tile production by the 1920s and is still in operation today.
