The history of Limoges porcelain begins in 1768 with the discovery of local kaolin clay deposits near Limoges, France, which was essential for making hard-paste porcelain. This led to the establishment of porcelain factories, with the industry gaining significant royal patronage after King Louis XVI purchased a factory in 1784. The 19th century is considered the "golden age" for Limoges, with many private factories emerging and international exhibitions boosting development and competition. Today, Limoges remains a world-renowned center for porcelain production, known for its luminous, durable, and intricately decorated pieces.
