Herman Miller's history began as the Star Furniture Co. in 1905, becoming the Herman Miller Furniture Company in 1923 after D.J. De Pree and his father-in-law, Herman Miller, acquired the company. The company transitioned from traditional furniture to modern design in the 1930s under designer Gilbert Rohde and later, under George Nelson, brought in designers like Charles and Ray Eames. Today, Herman Miller is a global leader in innovative and sustainable furnishings and became part of the MillerKnoll collective in 2021.
