James was born in Perthshire in 1954 and is still inspired by the beautiful views of Scotland. He now spends a lot of time in France and is influenced by many of the great French impressionist artists.
Travel, adventure and new stimulus are key to his work.
He studied at Glasgow school of art 1972-1978 (DA in graphic design) and has been extremely prominent in the Glasgow art scene ever since.
Whether emotive or impressionist in style, capturing those moments of light and shadow that render the ordinary extraordinary are his passion.
James is renowned for his loose expressive plein air style.
