Born in Chicago, Illinois, he is known as a printmaker and painter. He has studied at Knox College, the University of Owa from which he has an M.F.A and Pacific Lutheran University. From 1964 to 1967, he was an instructor of painting at the University of Owa and returned there as Associate Professor from 1973 to 1978.

"For over 50 years I have been recording the gardens in my life. Recently the focus has been centered on individual plants, especially root systems, tubers, bulbs, aspects of the plants which give reminders of renewal, the life that will come next season. Printing with roat sheets of paper provides a way to move about the rectangular matrix and make each print unique. Watercoloring into the printed image allows even more variation and lets me move from day to night, playing even more with the cyclic nature of the garden'. 2001 (Delta National Small Prints Exhibition)
