Winter light is magical. The sun sits lower on the horizon creating more opportunity for good light and a longer 'magic hour'. Often the cold gives you crisp air and brilliant colors, and sometimes it gives you a layer of moisture that filters the sun and softens everything. For this painting I chose the latter, with a sun almost veiled by the atmosphere but enough light to create soft colors on the snow and dark tree branches against the lightened sky.
