So this one tree along route 15 that continually caught my eye, the only decision was whether to paint it in summer, or autumn. I couldn't choose, so painted it in both (see Majestic Maple, Summer for more). I chose to paint these in the studio and to paint both the Summer and the Autumn versions at the same time side-by-side. It was an interesting approach letting each one influence the other as it evolved. These two paintings I painted mostly for myself, as I was curious to try some new techniques. It may be the first time I felt like much of the painting painted itself. That is, it seemed to tell me what it needed next, there to put the masses of leaves and where to add the light. So although large they painted fairly quickly and I very much like the results.
