A cascade of poppies tumbles over the wall in front of the historic Masonic Lodge, one of several Hillsborough locations where poppies were planted by the Hillsborough Garden Club in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of World War I. The image of the poppy blooms, standing and fallen, honor all who have served in the armed forces. The painting title, drawn from the words of Abraham Lincoln, T.S Eliot, and Wilfred Owen, references the character and limitations of remembrance, seeing humanity over nationalism, and rejecting the glorification of war.
