Julie Wolk is a contemporary painter based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her work explores the tension between the wildness we carry inside and the versions of ourselves the world asks us to become. Working in layered abstraction, she builds paintings through saturated color, gesture, and shifting structure, where texture and disruption create moments of instability and release. Her practice is rooted in what gets suppressed in the effort to function, and what still insists on being felt.
