Thomas Stevens Gallery
Hillsborough, North Carolina
Fresh exhibits of collectable artwork and outstanding artists about every six weeks, plus the working studio and gallery for Thomas Stevens, a must-see venue.
MessageAdopted by the gallery, and still looking for a forever home, we've named this delightful flamingo 'Floyd' - as in 'Pink Floyd'.
Floyd is a creation by Shirley Frey McConahay, who has been crafting and creating artworks as a passionate environmentalist for over 50 years. Shirley decided early on to make realistic replicas of animals, birds, fish and reptiles, believing that viewers would grow attached to the real creatures and want to preserve them.
In 1992 she devoted herself to a non-profit organization, Art for Indigenous Survival, teaching soft sculpture to numerous indigenous peoples throughout North and Central America, mentoring young artists along the way.
