This installation uses materials, light, and real-time data to capture the sensory essence of the Pacific Northwest rainforests. By responding to shifts in temperature, the sculpture reflects the growing stress of the ecosystem, making the fragility of the landscape palpable. Through dynamic projections and interactive elements, the work seeks to preserve the visceral essence of the pristine rainforest, evoking a sense of urgency to engage with these threatened environments before they are altered beyond recognition.
Custom software by Mihai Jalobeanu was developed to visualize temperature shifts in the rainforest. This is achieved by capturing real-time temperature data from the Olympic Peninsula and comparing it with historical averages from the past 20 years. When the current temperature exceeds the historical average, it is highlighted in red. The software processes this data and generates a parametric video projection that makes the ongoing changes in the ecosystem visually tangible, offering an immersive experience of climate change's impact on the environment.
