Ruth Marie Tomlinson x
Ruth Marie Tomlinson has always been a maker but didn’t begin formal art education until her children entered elementary school, graduating with an MFA as they graduated from high school. Tomlinson’s work has been regularly sited in locations around the Pacific Northwest for 35 years. Observations of place are critical to her practice and result in installation, sculpture, drawing, and writing. The work is always tactile whether in material or text. Currently, Ruth Marie Tomlinson is exploring the place between the material and text. Connecting with other makers is an important part of Tomlinson’s practice. These connections include collaboration, sharing skills, and exploring creative possibilities. She has worked with her peers, with students, and with high-risk populations. Tomlinson is Professor Emeritus at Cornish College of the Arts and continues to mentor former students. She is also director of the Two Dot Schoolhouse Invitational Residency Program in Two Dot, Montana.
