Artist: Leonor Fini (1908-1996)
Leonor Fini was an Argentinian and Italian painter, designer, illustrator, and author, known for her depictions of powerful and erotic women. She was not a formally trained artist, but was familiar with the Renaissance and Mannerist styles, with her upbringing in Italy. At 17, she received commissions to paint portraits of dignitaries in Milan, after her exhibition in the gallery in Trieste. In 1929, she had her first one woman show at the Galerie Barbaroux.
She continued with her artwork and in 1936 she had her first major exhibition at the Julian Levy Gallery in New York. She would continue to have exhibitions in Kaplan Gallery and the Hanover Gallery in London, and the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris.
