Artist: George Cattermole (British, 1800-1868)
George Cattermole was a British painter and illustrator, working chiefly in watercolours. He was a friend of Charles Dickens and many other literary and artistic figures. In 1822 he was elected to the Royal Watercolor Society. In 1850 he left the society to paint in oil. His most productive period was between 1833 and 1850. At the Paris Exhibition of 1855 he received one of the five first-class gold medals awarded to British painters. Cattermole was regularly employed by publishers.
