Artist: Keisai Eisen (Japanese, 1790-1848)
Eisen was born to a well-known calligrapher, Shigeharu. He worked as a painter, printmaker and illustrator during the 19th century. Eisen had studied Kano painting with Hakkeisai and illustration and printmaking with Eizan. Eisen has created nature studies and landscapes, but is best known for his beautiful women prints.
Eisen's best works, including his ōkubi-e ("large head pictures"), are considered to be masterpieces of the "decadent" Bunsei Era (1818–1830). He was also known as Ikeda Eisen, and wrote under the name of Ippitsuan.
