Artist: Brent Kingston
High School. Earned a BFA in 1957 from the Univ. of Kansas where he studied with
Carlyle Smith and Robert Montgomery and a MFA in 1961 from the Cranbrook Academy
of Art where he studied with Richard Thomas. Taught at Southern Illinois Univ. in
Carbondale from 1961-96. His papers and an oral interview are held by the Archives of
American Art. Member: Artist-Blacksmith Assoc. of North America; Society of American
Silversmiths; founding member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
Exhibitions: Kansas Free Fair, 1956; New Gallery of Contemporary Art, 1983; Illinois
State Museum, 2008. Awards: National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, 1975, 1982;
American Craft Council Fellow, 1978; Distinguished member of the Society of American
Goldsmiths, 1982; Award for Distinguished Service from the Artist-Blacksmith Assoc. of
