Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a French painter. He participated in the Impressionist movement that began in 1874. Renoir was considered a vital figure within the movement. He continued to make warm and lush full feeling works that represented the world around him. It was in the mid-1880s that he broke from the movement and applied a more formal disciplined of techniques to his paintings. He continued to paint in his old age, even though he suffered from arthritis.
