This painting is an ode to my family and my roots from El Salvador. The bear represents me being born in California, the boy represents my nephew and is carrying gourds for each of my family members. It's about how I'm learning to support my nephew. Growing up in the US my parents didn't know what it's like. They did their best of course and did a great job but there are certain things they couldn't grasp about what it's like growing up here in the states. Now I get to guide my nephew in new ways my parents could not. It's a passing of knowledge and love through the generations. From the past, the gourds, to the future which is bright.
This piece is sprinkled with Fernando Llort, El Salvador's most prominent artist, as I wanted to really push the idea of my roots coming from the past to the now, and hopefully into the future. I ended up researching and finding many cool artist from El Salvador's and I'm looking forward to doing some stuff with that this year.
The generational family bond, the culture of El Salvador, and the artistic energy are all fusing together in this one piece of artwork that came out of my brush.
