"Dwell" is a part of my ongoing series, Self-Talk, which explores action- and values-based mantras as tools for cultivating a healthy mindset and encouraging meaningful engagement with the people and places around us. This piece is inspired by the mantra, "I can face my feelings, even when it's uncomfortable." I'm excited to include this piece in an exhibition focused around homecoming, because at the truest, most fundamental level, we are our home. Our bodies, our minds, our hearts—we can't escape them, and we carry them with us wherever we go. In a world full of distractions, the ability to sit in an uncomfortable feeling until it yields clarity is the most powerful way we can return and stay rooted to home. It is a power that not only transforms our experience of ourselves, but it has the power to shape how we show up for others as well—how we navigate the landscapes, boundaries, and lines we encounter.
