Star Thief (1978 - 86) was created by Rosenquist while in residence at the Smith College Museum of Art. The somewhat subdued color palette of this lithograph is a departure from Rosenquist's many large-scale paintings and prints that employ bright colors, inspired by the Florida landscape where he lives. Instead, Star Thief is reminiscent of early works done in the 1960s that combined a simplified composition with a monochromatic palette.
