San Diego artist Stephen P. Curry has made a name for himself in the art scene for the last three decades. Curry graduated from Grossmont College in 1987 and proceeded to obtain his B.F.A from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1990; since 2006 he teaches painting and drawing at Palomar College. Since returning to San Diego, Curry has been a part of numerous solo and group exhibitions around California. Curry has received both local and national recognition for the mix of realism and abstract expressionism in his paintings. His paintings reflect 17th century Baroque influences because of his usage of light and dark contrast. Curry credits renowned artist Michelangelo Caravaggio, Francisco de Zurbaran and American painter Wayne Thiebaud as the artists who have influenced his work. His paintings can be seen locally at The Museum of Contemporary Art and the California Center of the Arts Museum in Escondido.
