Artist: Raoul de la Sota (b. 1936)
Raoul de la Sota is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor who has lived in Northeast LA for over four decades. His work focuses primarily on portraying the natural landscape and its importance in different cultures around the world. Raoul was involved with the Chicano Arts Movement in LA and has worked closely with arts collectives like Self Help Graphics, Mechicano,the Arroyo Arts Collective, and Avenue 50 gallery. He was the first Chicano artist to be awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study in Peru. He has also toured his art through Latin America, Europe, and Africa. Currently, Raoul is a Professor Emeritus in Mexican American History at Los Angeles City College.
