Artist: Henry Gasser (1909-1981)
As a member of the National Academy of Design and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (1957), Gasser was also a member of many other important art organizations such as the Audubon Artists and the New Jersey Water Color Club. In 1954 Gasser resigned his directorship at the Newark School to begin a career as lecturer and demonstrator of painting techniques for art schools and smaller groups throughout the United States. He was also the author of several books on the technical aspects of painting. As adept with oils as he is with watercolor, Gasser blends the use of harmonious colors, solid composition, and expert lines in realistic portrayals of American coastal life. He died in 1981.
