A Hybrid Art Aesthetic
My paintings, which are hyper-realistic kitsch, are a reaction against abstract art, photography, as well as existing art, and a focus on everyday life.
Among my works, the Bongdari series reproduces borrowed objects by putting them in transparent plastic bags (BONGDARI). The transparent veil creates another difference from the original image of the objects. In addition, transparent vinyl operates in both the realms of perception and desire; the hyper-realistic reproduction of transparency, sparkle, and wrinkles is played separately and together in the realm of perception, and the imaging of packaged products is played separately and together in the realm of desire.
My painting is a paradoxical work completed by accumulating digital paint using countless analog methods on digital media. MY works add actual paint work to these actual prints, taking on hybrid material characteristics. The human body does not perceive objects only visually in the first place, but uses a hybrid perception method of sight and touch. The beauty of my actual works lies in their hyper-realistic expressions, which can lead to confusion with photographs. Here, digital skin and the real thing, each material creates a difference that operates in a more subtle and hybrid way aesthetically and sensuously in the realm of perception. I believe that my work, which has been expanded into hybrid physical works and converted into different mediums, shows my view of the world of art through the sense of presence that each medium provides differently.
