Free the Mind
Magpies are often considered symbols of luck, but they also are known to be messengers. I used Magpies for this piece because of their interesting colors, as when their wings are closed they appear to be black and white, but when they take off they are an array of iridescent blues and greens. This visual has always been striking to me and felt appropriate for the message I wanted to send with this piece: Freeing one's mind and expanding one's thoughts is just like a magpie taking flight in a burst of color.

The more personal story is I’ve been inspired by Magpies ever since I first saw them at a silent retreat in New Mexico and they have been following me ever since.
