MessageThis vessel is from the Jemez nation in new Mexico. While the Jemez stopped ceramic production in the mid eighteenth century, with an influx of interest in Native American art in the 1960's, the Jemez began to produce classic styles of ceramics once more. This is a classic example of a Jemez vessel, a red colored clay painted with white, black, and red pigments. The vessel is painted in natural symbols, drawing inspiration from other nations such as the Hopi and the Acoma. The bottom contains a signature that reads, "Komer, Jemez."
