MessageThis terra cotta pot is from the Nanbé Ówingeh tribe in New Mexico. The Nanbé Ówingeh pottery is consistent with the Tewa pottery traditions, seen in the Santa Clara and the San Ildefonso. However, this pot is very different from those made by either tribe. It terra cotta coloring is different from the traditional polished black of these regions, and the turquoise cabochon offsets the warmer color of the pot. While the artist is unknown, there are speculations of who it could be based on physical characteristics of other works. The base is signed "Rose, Nambe Pueblo" with an illegible line in the middle.
