Coming from the Santa Clara tribe in New Mexico, this triangular vessel is a nice polished black clay with black sgraffito on top of it. Sgraffito is the practice of applying slip to a nearly dried ceramic work, then etching a design into the surface to reveal the clay body underneath. This visual composition and method of design is typical of the Santa Clara tribe. The bottom of this vessel is signed with the artist's name and tribe.
